One Hand Clapping

I’m very pleased to have a poem, here, as part of the latest issue of the excellent One Hand Clapping journal, and in some august company too. Given the pay-off of my poem, it seems very appropriate that this is where the poem should have found its home.

Matthew, what an absolutely marvellous poem. Mind you, any poem with lapwings in it is my kind of poem.

Thank you so much, Liza – that’s very kind of you to say. And yes, hurray for lapwings.

Congrats, Matthew. I can’t find a masthead for the journal. Do you know who the editors are?

Thanks, Ren. The editor’s Alan Humm. If you’re on Facebook or Twitter, the journal has a presence on both.

Haha! With the sea of people, I can’t imagine to stay on anyone’s radar! Believe me: no offence taken.

Lovely poem Matthew – very evocative of time and place, with a beautiful description of lapwings (they always remind me of sheets of newspaper flapping about in the wind). And just as I’m lulled into this pastoral idyll of sheep and becks, you bring me up short with a funny, ironic and very telling couple of lines at the end. Brilliant!

Thank you, Julie – that’s lovely feedback. I hope all’s well with you.

Excellent poem Matthew. Alan has rejected me and I do keep records (civil servants and spreadsheets eh!).

Thanks. Rodney. All we can all do is keep plugging away. I have a spreadsheet for the ones which are out at any given time, but I wouldn’t want a cumulative record!
