Loved these poems, Matthew. Showed The Last Corinthians to Alan – a Carlisle-born Arsenal supporter – but of course always a Carlisle United supporter too. He saw Balderstone play on a number of occasions and says he was one of the best mid-fielders never to have played for England.
Thanks, Lizzie. I never saw him play football live, but I did see him play cricket. I remember him taking a phenomenal catch for England against the West Indies in 1976.

And what’s the form? Should I know?
Very pleased to come across Wild Court for the first time, too.
The form is just how the poem evolved, Lizzie. I’m very glad you like them.
History lessons and poetry combined. Excellent combination.
