Essay on bowls poems

Over on The Friday Poem, I have another essay, here, entitled Considering the Effects; on three poems about bowls (yes, really) by Stephen Payne, Pauline Stainer and Ted Walker. My thanks to editor Hilary Menos, and to HappenStance, Bloodaxe and London Magazine Editions for permissions to quote the poems in full.

A really interesting analysis of these poems, Matthew. Thank you for introducing me to The Friday Poem, and to the word ‘clerestory’! Cx

Thank you. Claire. I confess I had to look up ‘clerestory’!

Your essay on bowls is lovely, Matthew. Such wonderful detail and sharing. Obviously I know Stephen’s poem, but not the other two. I love the Pauline Stainer. Such a beautiful piece.

Lovely to read this. Thank you. >

Thanks, Nell. As soon as I read Stephen’s poem, I knew I had to write about it, and I already knew and loved/liked the other two.
